Everyone is familiar with flu season: During the fall and winter months each year, a highly contagious viral respiratory infection hits anywhere from five percent to 20 percent of Americans, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). And while the length and severity of flu season is unpredictable and varies from year to year, due in part to a constantly-changing virus, the CDC reports that February is typically the peak of flu activity.​
