Reminders for Employers as California Wildfires Rage

Firefighters across California are battling multiple wildfires, which are destroying property and prompting evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people. In addition to the massive devastation wildfires cause, there also is the threat of smoke exposure — especially for people working outdoors.

Cities and counties not under immediate wildfire threat may still have to deal with the harmful effects of wildfire smoke, and a new California Department of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) emergency regulation requires certain employers to take quick action when wildfires are burning.
