California Supreme Court Reaffirms Privette Doctrine

Contractors beware! The California Supreme Court has been reinforcing the long-standing rule that hirers of contractors generally escape tort liability for injuries sustained by their contractor’s employees and subcontractors. This general rule, also referred to as the “Privette Doctrine,” came up in two recent cases seeking to add to and expand existing exceptions.
