When employers commit labor law violations, aggrieved employees can generally pursue two types of relief: First, they can sue for remedies such as job reinstatement, back pay and damages. Or, second, when an employer has violated a regulation that provides for a civil penalty payable to a government agency, the employee can file a claim under the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA).
