Mental health is important for the well-being of not only ourselves, but also our children, families, colleagues and communities — but problems in this area are more common than you might think, as one in five American adults experience a mental health issue each year.

While a common misperception is that people with mental health issues, even those managing their illness, cannot reliably keep a job, studies show that people with mental health difficulties are just as productive as other employees. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic magnified the number of people experiencing stress, trauma, anxiety and depression — with the rates of depression more than tripling compared to 2019.
