As summer rapidly approaches, many Californians can expect both high temperatures and smoke from increasingly inevitable wildfires. Outdoor workers exposed to high heat can develop symptoms ranging from rashes and cramps to stroke and even death, while those who inhale wildfire smoke can potentially bring about chest pain, heart attacks and lung conditions.
To help keep workers safe, employers must follow state-implemented rules when temperatures reach or exceed 80 degrees or when smoke from wildfires reaches a certain level in the air.
