Definitions of Terms Used in Family and Medical Leave

An employee can take medical leave for the employee’s own “serious health condition.” An employee who is the spouse, son, daughter, parent, or next of kin of a covered servicemember can also take military caregiver leave for the “serious injury or illness” of the covered servicemember.
