• On April 7, 2020, the San Jose City Council adopted a temporary sick leave ordinance, requiring certain private employers to provide paid sick leave to eligible employees affected by COVID-19. This supplemental paid sick leave is in addition to the requirements imposed by the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act (California Paid Sick Leave (PSL) Law). The ordinance’s provisions, highlighted below, became effective on April 8, 2020, and will remain in effect through December 31, 2020.1
