COVID-19: Sonoma County Supplemental Paid Sick Leave Ordinance

Sonoma County’s COVID-19 supplemental paid sick leave ordinance, which first took effect on August 18, 2020, was revised several times.

Most recently, on June 8, 2021, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors adopted an amended urgency ordinance to extend its duration, and to align with California’s 2021 COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave law (AB 85 and SB 95) and the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The amended ordinance also added two new categories of vaccine-related qualifying reasons for use, and also afforded covered employees with a new potential bucket of up to 80 leave hours for full-time employees (pro-rated for part-time employees) that could be taken between January 1, 2021 through September 30, 2021 for the specified COVID-19-related reasons.
