Under current law, the heat illness standard only applies to outdoor places of employment.
Cal/OSHA, per statutory mandate, began working on an indoor heat-illness and injury prevention standard at the beginning of 2019.1 On March 31, 2023, Cal/OSHA published a draft indoor heat rule for public comment. At the time of publication, Cal/OSHA’s Standards Board has not adopted a final regulation.
