Last week’s Halloween festivities may have overshadowed that EEO-1 Component 1 data collection began October 31 — but the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) reminds employers that they have until December 5, 2023, to meet their filing deadline, which is less than one month away!

As a reminder, the EEO-1 Component 1 report is a mandatory EEOC annual data collection for all private-sector employers with 100 or more employees, as well as federal contractors with 50 or more employees meeting certain criteria. These employers must submit workforce demographic data that includes information on the racial/ethnic and gender composition of their workforce by specific job categories.

To help with their filing this year, employers can use the new EEO-1 Component 1 Instruction Booklet, which consolidates existing supporting materials — like FAQs and fact sheets — and provides additional information to clarify eligibility and reporting requirements.

Employers must file their information through the EEO-1 Component 1 Online Filing System (OFS). EEO-1 filers with accounts from prior reporting periods may need to update their passwords and profiles when returning, while new filers will have to set up an account to access the system. Employers need an account to submit and certify the EEO-1 report, register a new employer filing for the first time, request a company ID and employer PIN to access an existing employer record, and access additional support materials, amongst other actions.

Additionally, employers will need to log into the OFS to access the Filer Support Team Message Center, which allows them to submit requests for assistance to the EEOC, as well as update, cancel and track the status of requests.

Remember, employers have until December 5, 2023, to submit their reports!
