Documenting Heat Illness Prevention Procedures

Whether you are covered by one or both of the outdoor or indoor heat illness prevention standards, you must establish, implement and maintain a written Heat Illness Prevention Plan. The plan can be included as part of your IIPP.1 Employers covered by both outdoor and indoor heat illness prevention standards can create one plan to address procedures under both standards.
The plan, at a minimum, must contain the following:
- Procedures for provision of water. (See Providing Water).
- Procedures for providing access to shade or cool-down areas. (See Providing Shade).
