The time that union-security agreements become effective cannot be less than 30 days except in the building and construction industry, where they are effective after the seventh day following date of hire or the effective date of the agreement, whichever is later. A union-security agreement that provides a shorter grace period than the law allows is invalid, and any employees discharged because they didn’t comply with such an agreement is entitled to reinstatement.
