Throughout the year, there are a few occasions where betting brackets and wagers in office pools pop up — such as the NCAA men’s basketball tournament known as “March Madness,” the NFL Super Bowl and the MLB World Series, to name a few.

Workplace gambling ranges from the seemingly innocuous (office fantasy football leagues) to the destructive (employees with serious gambling problems stealing from employers).

Not only is it illegal for individuals or employers in California to participate in gambling in the workplace, but doing so comes with thousands of hours in lost work production, which can affect an employer’s bottom line.
